Benson 18, Grant 10: The visiting Techmen scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning to put away the Generals and snap an 11- game losing streak with the win in Northeast Portland.
A grand slam by senior Phil Karn gave the Generals (10-5, 5-2 Portland Interscholastic League) a 10-8 lead in the bottom of the sixth. "It would have been easy to just fold that last inning." Benson coach Jackson Gillett said.
But once Benson was at bat, the Techmen of Northeast Portland never looked back. Grant changed pitchers three times in the seventh inning. "They just wanted it more," said Daniel Halverson, who pitched in the seventh.
Seniors Jeff Wallberg and Michael Mesa hit home runs for the Techmen (2-13, 1-5), and Marc Kemp had four RBIs. Junior Jordan Warren was 2-4 and had six strikeouts.
Byron Brown was 4 for 4 and scored three runs for the Generals.
